How Long After a Relaxer Can I Braid My Hair?

A minimum of two weeks! Your tresses are weak after a relaxer, so to minimise on breakage allow your hair to recoup before adding undue stress.  If you are due for a relaxer and need to braid your hair, that's the perfect time.....new growth is great!"

This is a great Protective Style and was created on Natural Hair using Afro Kinky Hair.  Senegalese Twists were rodded and dipped in boiling water to achieve curls.  Twists can be done on relaxed or natural hair.  Based in Fort Lauderdale, call now for your next appointment, 860.523.4844

CATCHING UP ON WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING

How are you all doing?  I hope enjoying the summer months.

I have to say that I am not good at this.  I started of very enthusiastic about blogging, great way to vent, share news, what's new, what's old etc.  However, as you can see ......I've done nothing!!!  As we get "younger" trying to keep up with all this new technology is time consuming, but to stay in business, its almost a must.

So with that said what has been happening?????  Alot!!!  I've been on the road doing what I do best, teaching.  Taliah's World Natural Hair Show was phenomenal show.  It was so packed that they had to shut the doors.  I was like a child candy store.  It was just beautiful to see sooooo many sisters sporting their natural hairstyles and wearing it proudly.  The vendors with new products, handmade crafts, and yes my new T's went down very well!!  My models, Bridgette, Sancia, Paulette and Sharon, did my proud.  I taught two classes, Curly Twists, and Loc Styling.

Bronner Bros show in Maryland was good.  Classrooms were packed.  I taught Transition to Natural Hair and Loc Extension.  What I like about this show is that my class is filled with Professional Stylist eager and hungry to learn how to transition their clients and provide better transitional services.  My Instructional DVD's did well.  I hope those who purchased benefited from them.

The Premiere Orlando.  Well well well, if you have not been to this show, you have not been to a hair show.  Its two days filled with amazing, cutting, coloring, styling, mega stage shows......its like WOW!!!  Aziza Yasmin, and Essence China (Natural Hair stylists') were also blow away with what they saw.  The show needs to be three days.  You need a day and a half each for classroom and walk the floor, there is so much to take in.  Yes my classes were packed, and thanks to Phyllis, Yasmin and Essence for their help.  I taught Loc Extension and Curly Twists.  I was also blessed to have to have Asha Mandella, Gusiness World Book of Records holder for the longest loc, at my booth.  Yes she took people breath away as they approached the booth they could see hair......as they got closer, more hair........and then there was more hair.....and finally there was Asha!  The facial expressions were priceless!!!   I think Asha's face has a fixed smile on it with all the pictures she has to pose for.  Love your spirit Asha and hanks for tacking the time out to attend.

So what's next......working on putting some Hands On classes together.  Starting and Maintaing Locs, Loc Extensions, and different Braiding Techniques.  Save the date13th November, 2011, Natural Hair Care Seminar, Vibz Uptown, Hartford CT.

Brazillian Keratin Treatments & Chemicals That Can Affect Our Health

Interesting article on Brazillian Keratin Treatments which contains formaldehyde, making people sick.  If you are going to use chemicals whether it be household, perms, relaxers, acrylic nails, etc.. chemicals are chemicals and they can harm you. So pay attention to what they might be doing to your health.

Some people react to the slightest smell and other don't.  Pay attention to your body.  When you see changes, try to think of meds you are taking, smells you are inhaling etc.

From my own personal experience, I was getting terrible headaches and realised that when my BP (Blood Pressure) was high it contributed to making them worst.  When I took Excedrin they went away.  I was sick with the flu at the beginning of the year and again my headaches got worse.  I could not understand why Excedrin, 4 Advil's (at one time) and NyQuil, was not getting rid of it.  My head was also burning on one side.

I had to go to Home Depot for something to take away the smell of an oil spill in my basement.  While asking for help to find this, I was told, I'd better get rid of the smell as it caused headaches.  Ah Ah!! there was my culprit.  I was locked in my bedroom, with the flu, for two weeks, no fresh air and this just made my headaches unbearable.  Needless to say I went home, opened all my window, and yes headaches and burning stopped.  So all I needed to do was open the window to air my house and get rid of the smells too!!!

Stylist have to remember that they are working around chemicals all day, and some harsh ones too, color, bleaching, relaxers, perms, acrylic nails to name a few.  They do so in poor ventilated salons.  Some are affected right away, but for others later on in life they are wondering why they have all these unexplained health issues.  Make sure your area is properly ventilated.
